Musical Formation for Boys

Directed by Harold Rutila, the St. Philip Neri Boys' Choir builds the same foundational choral skills as the Girls' Choir — sight-reading, solfège, pronunciation, phrasing, and four-part harmony — within the particular context of the boys' voice and its development.

Service in the Boys' Choir may run concurrently with service at the altar, integrating the choir's participation into the full liturgical life of the Shrine. Boys reaching age 16 are actively encouraged to transition into the Young Adult Choir and the Gregorian Chant Schola.

The rehearsal schedule runs concurrently with the homeschool co-op calendar.

Participants under 18 require a signed parental consent form prior to their first rehearsal. All participants must complete Safe Environment (VIRTUS) training as required by the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Minors are responsible for their own transportation to and from St. Joseph Shrine. Parents acknowledge the published seasonal schedule of rehearsals and Masses and understand that participants are expected to be present for all listed events barring emergency circumstances.
