Participation in the ensembles of the St. Joseph Shrine Music Program is by a brief, confidential audition — in person or by prerecorded video. A single audition serves for placement across all ensembles.
Thank you to everyone who auditioned for the Fall 2026 season. Placements have been communicated and the season is under way.
The next audition period is January 2027, ahead of the Spring season. Dates, the audition packet and the sign-up form will be published here in December. To be notified as soon as they are, add your name to the interest list.
The audition determines voice placement (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) and one’s basic capacity to sing. Candidates sing 1–2 minutes of a prepared work, then a few short guided exercises: matching pitches, echoing a short melodic pattern, and a brief reading. It takes about ten minutes.
In-person auditions are private, one candidate at a time, with only the applicant and the panel. A prerecorded video audition is accepted as a full substitute and is scored on the same rubric.
Singers of every experience level are welcome — from those new to formal choral training to seasoned choristers. Formation in musical literacy is part of the program.
